Annual tax return 2024: How to secure the right deductions and avoid tax arrears

In mid-March 2025, your annual tax return for 2024 will be available in the Tax Agency's TastSelv. This is your opportunity to ensure that all information is correct and that you get the deductions you are entitled to.

Here we guide you through the most important dates, deductions and corrections to avoid unpleasant surprises - and maybe even get a refund!

Important dates to remember

Mid-March 2025 - The annual tax return becomes available in TastSelv.
May 1, 2025 - Deadline for correcting the annual tax return (for ordinary taxpayers).
July 1, 2025 - Deadline for reporting extended tax return.
April 2025 - Any excess tax is paid.

Remember to check your deductions

Several deductions are not automatically registered, so it's important that you make sure that all relevant information is correct.

The most relevant deductions:

Transportation deduction
If your commute to work is more than 12 km each way, you can get a deduction for transportation costs. Remember that home working days, sick days and vacation days do not count.

Craftsman deduction
Have you had energy renovations or service work carried out in your home in 2024? Certain services may be deductible, such as loft insulation, window replacement and heat pump installation.

Interest expenses and investments
Have you paid interest on loans or mortgages? Or traded shares? Check that the information is correctly registered so you don't pay too much tax.

Charity
Have you donated money to charity? Contributions up to DKK 18,300 in 2024 are tax deductible - but you must ensure that they are registered with the Danish Tax Agency.

Do you have tax arrears?

If you have tax arrears for 2024, it's worth paying them as soon as possible to avoid unnecessary interest.

If paid before July 1, 2025, overnight interest of 5.3% p.a. will be charged .

If paid on or after July 1, 2025, a fixed interest surcharge of 7.3% will be added.

Do you want to avoid tax arrears in the future? Check your withholding statement and adjust it if your finances change - for example, if your salary changes or your deductions change.
